Zermatt in the winter

Zermatt has long been a bucket list destination for skiers and snowboarders.
The vast ski area, high altitude and constantly improving snow making capabilites mean fantastic opportunities for amazing snowsports holidays through out the winter.

Besides skiing, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy, such as hiking, snowshoeing and ice skating.

Whether you’re a real foodie or prefer traditional rustic fare, you’ll find amazing restaurants on and off the mountain. From traditional Swiss dishes to international cuisine, there’s something for everyone. Zermatt also has a rich cultural history that you can explore through its museums and art galleries. You’ll love the town’s unique blend of the modern and traditional, reflected in its architecture and way of life.

So why not plan a trip to Zermatt and create unforgettable memories in the Alps?

Zermatt is a snowsports paradise. There’s something for everyone!  Perfectly groomed pistes. Steep and deep backcountry. Moguls on itinerary runs. Rails and kickers in the terrain park.

It’s all here to be explored.

We’ve called this a ski guide and we refer to skiing throughout, but Zermatt is also a great place to snowboard. From the park to powder, there’s plenty to offer every level of rider.

The Zermatt ski area is vast and moving around it can take a bit of navigating. There are three distinct but well connected areas on the Swiss side that each have their own highlights and character. Then it’s a fairly easy trip over the border to explore another large network of runs in the Italian resorts of Cervinia and Valtournanche.

From Zermatt, there three ways of accessing the mountain. Each of these lift stations are easily accessed on foot, by bus or taxi.

For the first time visitor it can be a little daunting trying to choose where to go and how to get there, especially if you are travelling as a group or family. We have loads of hints and tips to help you figure it all out and make the most of your days on the mountain!

Sharing our local knowledge of the mountains

The Real Zermatt Team

This guide was originally born in 2021 as printed book, created by team at Summit Ski & Snowboard School. We wanted to share our love of Zermatt and information about where we spend all our time, in the mountains.

Now we’ve taken it online so the information can be kept even more up to date and we’ve welcomed input from other long time Zermatt residents. So whether you’re thinking about visiting, have a holiday planned or it’s the only place you ski we hope there is something for everyone.
